![]() In our first monthly blog, Tim Page looks at the importance of springs in the production of a reliable and long-lasting machine. The purpose of a spring is to store mechanical energy when displaced, an effective spring can take considerable deflection when under load and return to its equilibrium without undergoing any lasting dimensional change. Nowadays all kind of machines from dishwashers through to engines and even telephones incorporate a spring, a faulty spring can lead to a faulty machine. A reliable spring is important in the smooth running of the machines we use on a daily basis. Springs can be produced from a variety of materials from metal and plastic and the design process can be very complex. A spring designer plays an important part in ensuring the correct spring is produced to fit the needs of the end product, initial concept ideas will be produced before making prototypes and then going on to produce a final spring which fits the needs and demands of the final product. Throughout the design process modifications can be made which in the long run will save time and any re-design costs ensuring a strong a reliable spring resulting in a long-lasting machine. Now that you know about the importance of springs in the production process, please do get in touch if you would like to know more, email us or call 01425 611517. Next month our Sales Manager. Jon Davies will look at ‘the right materials for a spring’. Tim Page, Managing Director Comments are closed.
